Co-Op 87, Greenpoint Brooklyn
Closed –  87 Guernsey Street Greenpoint Brooklyn

Times have changed for Co-Op 87.   Greenpointer.com reported in March 2019 that  Greenpoint’s Co-Op 87 Records to Rebrand as Brooklyn Record Exchange.  The building at 87 Guernsey was being renovated, and the store opened a new location (part owned by a record label) at 599 Johnson Ave. in Bushwick.  A March 2019 article in AM NY reports on the move/new store opening Brooklyn Record Exchange by Co-Op 87, indie label Mexican Summer opens in Bushwick.  I’ll let you know what I think when I visit.

For now, here’s what I wrote when I visited the store in July 2016, when it was open:

As the rent rises in Manhattan, record stores flee to Brooklyn, where the rent is more reasonable.  Another Brooklyn record store is Co-Op 87, a smallish shop tucked away in the middle of the block on Guernsey.  For a small shop, it has a nice selection, reasonably priced, and a listening station to boot. How bad can a place be that has both Wayne’s World and Alfred Hitchcock on the same wall?
