Song of the Day

Today’s Song of the Day is Lou Reed – Dirty Boulevard.  Long past his tour with the Velvet Underground, Reed rises again here as he (mostly) talks and (sometimes) sings his way through this bleak ode to New York’s poor.  A simple three chord progression, this one is mostly about the words, over a stripped down backing  with a soulful embellishment at the end.  From 1988’s New York, this one fared well on the modern radio charts.  It has a backing vocal by none other than Dion (Dimucci).

“No one here dreams of being a doctor or a lawyer or anything
They dream of dealing on the dirty boulevard”
