Song of the Day
Today’s Song of the Day is my favorite Richard Thompson song – Richard Thompson – 1952 Vincent Black Lightning. This is a live version that shows the true guitar virtuosity of Thompson, and showcases both his singing and songwriting ability. A great folk song that tells the tragic love story about two lovers and a motorcycle – the Vincent Black Lightning. The song first appeared on his Rumor and Sigh album in 1991.
For those who want to know, pictured below is a Vincent Black Lightning motorcycle, circa 1948-1952. According to Wikipedia, it was at one time the fastest motorcycle in the land, setting the US speed record in 1948. It was produced from 1948 to 1952.
And here’s an iconic photo of Rollie Free, setting the world speed record at Bonneville Flats in 1948 in his bathing suit (to help him go faster). He hit over 150 mph on the bike.
