Song of the Day

Today’s song of the day is Steppenwolf – Born To Be Wild   From 1968, this song is credited with the birth of heavy metal (“heavy metal thunder”) and features a snarling vocal, and swirling organ.  It was written by Mars Bonfire, who was not in the band.  Its well known for its appearance in Easy Rider (1969), which added a motorcycle to the song, and cemented the song’s tie to bikers everywhere.  Rolling Stone magazine rated it 124th best song of all time.

Here are two videos – the first of Steppenwolf performing the song from the Beat Club, and the second featuring the song and clips from Easy Rider.
