Monastiraki Flea Market – Open
I took a trip to Greece recently, and had our flight back to the States delayed. This gave me an unexpected extra day in Athens. So we strolled around the Monastiraki Flea Market and to my surprise discovered a large number of record stores. The best of the lot by far was Zacharias – off to the side of the main drag, it had an excellent selection both of rock, psych, etc., but also a number of Greek records (as to which I confess I am clueless). Yes, that was the Velvet Underground on the wall, with a partially peeled banana cover. Worth a trip, if you miss your flight, or have seen the Parthenon enough.
Here’s an interview in Ough titled the Good Humor Man He Sees Everything Like This with the owner of the store. This link comes from the Wayback Machine of the Internet Archive, as the article on Ough is no longer available.
